The rules behind them
Open tight early, wide late
Under the gun opens about 17% of hands. The button opens about 42%. The fewer players left to act behind you, and the more often you'll have position after the flop, the wider you can open.
3-bet or fold outside the big blind
From the cutoff against an under-the-gun open, the chart 3-bets about 8% of hands and never just calls. Flatting invites a squeeze from the players behind, so hands like ace-jack offsuit simply fold.
Defend your big blind
You've already got a big blind in and you close the action, so you get a great price. Against a button open, the big blind continues with about 38% of hands, mostly by calling. Suited hands that make flushes and straights defend well.
Suited beats offsuit
The same two ranks play very differently. King-jack suited is a 3-bet against an under-the-gun open; king-queen offsuit is close to a coin flip. Suited hands keep their value when called.
Online vs live: not the same charts
Live games are usually deeper, with bigger raises and different rake, and the right play can flip. King-jack offsuit in the small blind against a button open is mostly a 3-bet online, but mostly a fold in live cash at 200bb. If you play live, use the live cash charts instead.
Drill them until they're automatic
Reading a chart once doesn't stick. In the gym you get dealt a spot, make your decision, and see straight away what the chart does and why. GG, CoinPoker and fast-fold formats are all in there.
